The First Caspian Media Forum, organized with the support of Russia's Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications has kicked off in Astrakhan, Russia.

Opening the forum, Alexey Volin, deputy minister of telecom and mass communications said that the goal of this event is to create an objective and positive media sphere in the entire region.

"The main task of information is to facilitate the economic, cultural and other types of cooperation in the region. Because, all these spheres can't develop without proper information support," said Volin.

Economic ties, investments and positioning the region's business are impossible without information, he added.

Governor of Astrakhan Oblast Alexander Zhilkin for his part said that despite the difficulties of the current period and the crisis that affected all countries, the trade turnover between the Caspian Sea countries is growing and transport corridors operate and develop.

He pointed out that very large projects are being implemented in a number of fields, including the humanitarian and economic spheres.

The First Caspian Media Forum will last till Sept.20. Over 200 guests from five littoral states of the Caspian Sea are taking part in this event. The forum participants are discussing the development of international relations in terms of information exchange and strengthening the cooperation.

In this event, Azerbaijan is being represented by the employees of the country's Presidential Administration, ministries of economy and industry, culture and tourism, communications and high technologies, ecology and natural resources, education, as well as media representatives.
