Police in Azerbaijan have been authorized to use firearms during prevention of the crimes related to terrorism, religious extremism and attempts to change constitutional order, according to new amendments to the "Law on Police."
Under the amendments, adopted Dec. 4 by Azerbaijan's parliament, the police have the right to use firearms in such situations as prevention of an attack or other violence, posing a real threat to the human life and health, in cases of riots or mass unrests.
The police, among other situations stipulated by the amendments, are also authorized to use firearms while freeing hostages or seized buildings, structures, land plots and transportation means.
