By Samir Mammadov - Trend:

Former chairman of Azerbaijan's International Bank, Jahangir Hajiyev, who is under arrest, will appeal to Baku's Narimanov District Court with a request to transfer him under house arrest, Trend was told by his lawyer, Agil Layijov.

The lawyer said he had consulted with Hajiyev over this appeal.

"Jahangir Hajiyev's being on freedom doesn't interfere with the investigation. This was also said by Hajiyev himself at the trial. Therefore, we will appeal on this issue to the Narimanov District Court," noted the lawyer.

"We would like Hajiyev to be under house arrest, at least. He has health problems, and he should take medicines timely," he added.

The lawyer also told Trend that the appeal is being prepared and will soon be sent to the court.

The Baku Court of Appeals reviewed on Dec. 10 the appeal from Hajiyev on a decision made by Baku's Narimanov District Court.

Earlier, the Narimanov District Court chose an arrest for four months as a preventive measure against Hajiyev.

Jahangir Hajiyev is charged under various articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, including the large scale misappropriation, abuse of office, fraud causing serious damage, embezzlement, abuse of power, and bribery.
