Azerbaijan's state company SOCAR has started to pay a lump-sum financial aid in the amount of 15,000 manats to the families of oilmen killed and missing after a platform fire in the Caspian Sea.

A fire broke out on the platform #10 of the offshore field Gunashli, Dec. 4, as a strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline.

As many as 33 people were rescued in an ensuing large-scale operation. The bodies of seven killed were retrieved, while 23 oil workers are still listed as missing.

SOCAR said Dec. 24 on its website that it also started compensation payments in the amount of 15,000 manats to the families of the oilmen missing in the waters of the Oil Rocks field in the Caspian Sea.
