Fire at SOCAR’s offshore platform put out

The fire at the offshore platform Gunashli 19, which erupted due to gas leak, has been extinguished, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Emergencies Ministry said in a joint message Sept. 27.
The fire occurred Sept. 26 as a result of operations to eliminate gas outburst at SOCAR’s platform.
According to the message, the fire was extinguished Sept. 27 morning and gas leaks were prevented.
Currently, SOCAR specialists are carrying out maintenance and repair works on the platform.
According to the message, all 69 people on the platform were evacuated.
Gunashli is one of the oldest and biggest offshore fields in Azerbaijan. The field’s shallow part is developed by SOCAR on its own and its deep-water part, included in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of fields, is developed by a consortium led by BP.
