The Islamic Solidarity Games are very important for athletes from Muslim countries, head coach of Iran’s national artistic gymnastics team, Mohammad Azarpay told Trend May 11.
“The Iranian team’s main goal in these competitions is to win at least one medal,” Azarpay said.
He added that an Iranian team of three gymnasts has arrived in Baku.
Azarpay said that gymnast Saeedreza Keikha intends to demonstrate a new element in the pommel horse exercises.
He added that there are excellent gymnastics halls and hospitable people in Baku.
“I would like to mention the activity of Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Farid Gaibov,” he said. “Gaibov is doing his best for the competitions to be held at a high level. I am sure the Islamic Solidarity Games will be also held at a high level.”
The Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, the opening ceremony of which will take place May 12, started May 8 and will last until May 22 in Azerbaijan’s capital on 16 sports grounds in 20 kinds of sports – 17 Olympic ones and three non-Olympic ones.
