Many countries of the world have actively begun to vaccinate the population against coronavirus infection, and Azerbaijan is among the countries where vaccination against COVID-19 is in full swing, Trend reports.
After analyzing data on the level of vaccination against coronavirus in the CIS countries, Azerbaijan, as one of the first countries in the region to start vaccination, is ahead of most countries both in terms of purchases and the rate of vaccine use.
Accordingly, in compliance with the national vaccination strategy, through the ordered 4 million doses of CoronaVac vaccine, vaccination of persons belonging to risk groups began. As of March 26, 2021, a total of 746,608 doses of vaccines were administered, 226,000 people were fully vaccinated.
But the coronavirus presents the world with new types of mutations, leading to a new wave of infections in several countries, accompanied by an increase in mortality rates, which creates the basis for the introduction of strict quarantine measures. In this case, vaccination can play an important role. If the rate of vaccination is increased, it will be possible to reduce mortality and hospitalization rates, especially among those at risk.
Statistics show that Azerbaijan occupies a leading position in terms of vaccination among the CIS countries.
According to data from open sources, as of March 26, 2021, 518,867 people received the first dose of the vaccine in Azerbaijan, which is 5.2 percent of the population, while in Russia the number of vaccinated people is 6.3 million, which is 4.3 percent from the entire population of Russia. In Belarus, this figure is 2 percent, and in Moldova, Kazakhstan and Ukraine does not exceed 1 percent. Neighboring Georgia has gained access to 72,400 doses of the vaccine through the global COVAX platform, but only 5,000 people have been vaccinated. The COVID-19 vaccination has not yet begun in Armenia.
In terms of the number of vaccinated per 100 people, Azerbaijan is also a leader, second only to Russia.
