On 4-6 June 2021, a PwC Azerbaijan's Formula 1 Marshals Team participated in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2021. As in the previous years, we were in charge of the Sector 1, which is known as one of the most intensive and responsible sectors of the Baku City Circuit. In addition, we had Namig Hajiyev, head of our IT department, as a technical scrutineer. On the track the PwC team of 18 marshals was working together during the training sessions every weekend for the past 4 months to become a truly one team. This was a great demonstration of PwC's team spirit and Values reflected in the Firm’s purpose.
For the fifth year the team was successfully led by a young and dedicated chief, Inara Namaliyeva, the head of our Human Capital. Several exciting moments of the F2 race happened in our sector when two cars flew off the track. The situation was well handled by our marshals who cleared the track and assisted the drivers in a short period of time.
Also, Sector 1 was in the middle of action when Lewis Hamilton’s dramatic failure in the crucial last 3 laps after the red flag cost him the podium. Our marshals assisted Sergio Perez, the ultimate winner of the race, when he stopped in Sector 1 after snatching a late victory after Red Bull Formula 1 teammate Max Verstappen's tyre failure. Our marshals reacted quickly and pushed his car to the pit.
"F1 has been an amazing experience for all of us. It was a unique opportunity to bond as one team, support each other and help our country to conduct a mega event like the F1 race", said Inara.
The performance and energy the team showed during the 2021 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix was exceptional and highly praised by both the local and international F1 management.
