BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. Azerbaijan marks the 31st anniversary of the Dashalty operation, Trend reports.

The operation to liberate the village of Dashalty was unsuccessful that day, but thanks to the efforts of the Azerbaijani Army, which improved over the years, Azerbaijan's tricolor flag has been flying in Dashalty for 3 years now.

The soldiers of the 3rd division of the Volunteer Azerbaijani army and the Shusha Defensive Battalion on January 26, 1992, launched an operation to liberate the village of Dashalty. The lack of communication between the soldiers and tactical mistakes resulted in Azerbaijani units being ambushed. Thus, the operation failed.

During the operation, Azerbaijan lost 94 fighters, a significant number of soldiers were wounded, and others were missing. The enemy also suffered significant losses.

Farman Veliyev, a participant in the Dashalty operation, told Trend about the night when Azerbaijani units went on the offensive.

"At the entrance to the village, we got into a fog. Communication with other units was interrupted. We were lost. All this led to losses. We were on top, but we were defeated as a result of the incompetence of the command. We lost Dashalty and Shusha. However, in the 44-day second Karabakh war, we won thanks to a unified command and a strong army. We avenged our martyrs," he said.

During the 44-day second Karabakh war, Dashalty village was considered the gate to Shusha.

Azer Bayramov, a military expert, told Trend that at that time the lack of professionalism and poor coordination that prevailed in the Azerbaijani army led to the failure of the Dashalty operation.

"As a result of successful counter-offensive operations conducted by the Azerbaijani army, starting on September 27, 2020, our lands were liberated from the Armenian occupation," he said.

"During the second Karabakh war, the Azerbaijani army knocked out the enemy from Azerbaijan's lands. The liberation of Dashalty during the second Karabakh war led to the fact that the road from Lachin to Shusha was taken under control, which prevented the enemy from transferring reserve forces and supplies. The participants in the second Karabakh war turned the failure of the Dashalty operation into a success. Our heroes not only liberated the territories from occupation, but with this triumph, they compensated the moral damage caused to our people over the years, and restored historical justice," he concluded.
