Society Materials 24 June 2005 15:58 (UTC +04:00)

Presentation of new up-to-date equipment, purchased from the Finnish Vaisala and installed at the hydro-meteorological station of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) took place on the Pirallahi island on 24 June. A new facility will allow the station to record automatically any changes of weather conditions. The cost of the Finnish Vaisala is $8,000. Along with this, opening of facilities for generation of wind and solar electrical energy took also place.

On the whole, the Ministry of Ecology purchased three similar plants, two of which have been installed in other regions of Azerbaijan. According to the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Husseyn Bagirov, 10 more such facilities are planned to buy till November. Totally, the Ministry hopes to install 80 such plants in Azerbaijan.

The necessity for the facility on generating the wind and solar electrical energy on Pirallahi has been dictated by frequent failures in power supply. The wind station construction cost made up $15,000. The total project price (on Pirallahi) is some $31,000.

The project on preventing gases, creating the greenhouse effect hitting the atmosphere, has been carrying out on funds of the Canadian government. To this end, three countries: Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have been allocated $4 million Canadian dollars. The project implementation started in 2002.
