SCHOOLS OF GENERAL EDUCATION TO GET FULLY SUPPLIED WITH COMPUTER SETS

A total of 210 schools of general education, in Baku and Sumgayit, will be fully outfitted with computers before the commencement of the new educational year.

Minister for Education Misir Mardanov told media that the computerization is part of the 2005-2007 State Program on the provision of schools of general education with information and communication technologies.

He noted that the Government had approved 4 million U.S. dollars for the realization of the first stage of the program. More than half of the money will be spent on the acquisition of information technologies and equipment, with the remaining budget intended for the training of teachers.

The first stage envisions the computerization of schools in Baku and Sumgayit, with the regions standing in the following queue. So far, about 100 school teachers have been trained in the framework of the program, obtained relevant certificates and assigned to corresponding jobs at schools.

In general, the three-year program envisions the computerization of 4,500 schools of general education. The Government of Azerbaijan has agreed to provide a total of 20 million U.S. dollars in funding for the implementation of the program.
