ELMIRA SULEYMANOVA: THERE IS NEED IN MORE IMPARTIAL PUBLICATIONS IN AZERBAIJAN’S MEDIA

For today there is a necessity in publications aimed at the development of democracy in Azerbaijan, transformation of the society, reflecting the realities in the society, balanced information, the ombudswoman of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova stated at the roundtable on 18 July, dedicated to the 130-th anniversary of the national press, Trend reports.

Having noted the important role of the media in forming the people’s national consciousness, healthy moral values, ensuring the social justice and transparency, human rights protection, development of the native language the ombudswoman has also underscored, the freedom of speech and the press, the pluralism of ideas are the most outstanding achievements of the independence. According to Suleymanova, she pays a special attention to the collaboration with the media.

For the period of her activities she made a number of proposals on specific bills relating to the media. The ombudswoman keeps in the focus of her attention ensuring freedom of speech and press in the country, development of this sphere, protection of the media representatives, Sulemanova stated.

Chairman of the Press Council (PC) Aflatun Amashov, chairman of the TV and Radio Council Nushirvan Maggeramli, deputy chairman of the PC Gulu Magerramli, the media representatives took part in the round table.

The participants discussed a number of issues related to the current state of the media and problems existing in this field.
