The Public Television of Azerbaijan (PT) will broadcast late August 2005, while it will derive the television channel to have a significant impact on the atmosphere of unbiased coverage’ of the pre-election situation in the country, Miklosh Harashti, the OSCE representative on freedom of mass media, said to a news-conference in Baku on Friday, Trend reports.
Kharashti underlined that Azerbaijani leadership is due to reconsider its positions on the establishment of public television and to reelect the Director General of the PT in order to provide a properly independent channel.
The same time the OSCE representative on media freedom stressed the necessity of establishment of the PT on the base of AZTV-1 and said that there still exist chances for following the recommendations.
“This step by the Azerbaijani government will allow setting of confidence in regard to the public television, which is of a paramount importance during the pre-election period,” he noted.
