The Ministry of Ecology and the Natural Resources of Azerbaijan (MENR) developed 5 programs on cleaning the Apsheron peninsular from polluting, the MENR Minister Gusseyn Bagirov told Trend on 27 September 2005.
According to him, one of the programs aimed at protecting the land and lake areas of the Apsheron peninsular from polluting and the document is submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. “The Ministry conducted monitoring of the existing water sources on the peninsular and their composition was analyzed. The experts’ opinions on the necessity to dry up these lakes were
also put forward”, he said.
The second program envisions cleaning of the contaminated areas of the peninsular including oil contaminations.
By the experts’ opinion, $15-18 million will be needed for implementation of the program on cleaning the areas polluted by oil and oil products.
The task force was set up in the framework of the program, the members of which are representatives of SOCAR, SC Azal, the Baku executive authority and MENR.
The program on cleaning the Baku Bay was also prepared by MENR.
