Russian historian to write novel on Nakhchivan khans dynasty

The known Russian historian, a member of the Union of Writers and the Union of Journalists of Russia, Rudolf Nikolaevitsch Ivanov will write a novel on the Nakhchivan khans dynasty, the Russian historian said in a statement on 11 January at the meeting at the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan in the framework of his visit to Azerbaijan at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Foundations president and the Milli Mejlis deputy Mehriban Aliyeva personal invitation.

Rudolf Ivanov is the author of 23 books and about 200 articles, among which works on the history of the imperial Russia and Caucasus, as well as books dedicated to the heroic deeds of the Caucasus peoples representatives and their role in defense and prosperity of the Russian Empire. The Honored journalist and the Milli Mejlis deputy Elmira Ahundova, who organized the meeting, told the meeting participants. According to her, among his works the historical novel Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the lie attracts a large attention.

According to Ahundova, last year the TV film Bayzet was demonstrated by the Russian TV channel, dedicated to the tragic episode of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and shot by the novel of Valentin Pikul, who, as Ahundova noted, was not always careful with the historical facts, was demonstrated by the Russian TV. However, the film authors moved away from the historical realities even more. And mostly distorted were the characters of the fortress defenders of the Moslem origin, she stressed.

Soon after the film release a large article by Rudolf Ivanov entitled Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the fiction appeared in the Russian Nezavisimaya gazeta newspaper, in which the author depicted the true and real characters of the heroes and the fortress defenders, among which was also the colonel Ismail khan Nakhchivanski. According to Ahundova, contrary to the version of the film creators, the Russian scholar specifies the colonel Ismail khan Nakhchivanski as courageous and the most honest army officer, thanks to the courage and selflessness of which the surrender of the fortress was in many respects prevented. According to the studies of Ivanov, Ismail khan was honored with high awards of the Russian Empire.

According to Ahundova, having continued his researches Ivanov wrote a book Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the lie, in which he told on feats and heroic deeds of the Azerbaijanis, created remarkable portraits of Kelbali-khan and Ismail-khan Nakhichivanski.

In the opinion of Ahundova, the significance of the activities carried out by the Russian scientist, cannot be overestimated. His works drew attention of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation president, the Milli Mejlis deputy Mehriban Aliyeva, who invited the Russian writer and historian to Baku. В"Rudolf Nikolaevitch accepted the invitation by Mehriban-hanum with big inspiration and is eager to meet the city of his youth, where he once studied at the high naval school, the deputy underlined.

The meetings participants, the national writers of Azerbaijan Anar, Fikret Hodja, the Union of writers secretary Tofik Amirahli appreciated highly the work of the Russian scientist, who corrected falsification of historic facts, showed real characters of the Azerbaijani generals who honestly and faithfully served the Empire to readers. The writers came outwith the idea to translate the book into Azerbaijani.
