In 2005-2006 academic year 1,070 foreigners were admitted to the Azerbaijani universities, 1,026 Azerbaijanis - foreign universities, the Azerbaijani Education Ministry told Trend.
At present 4,400 foreign students from 45 countries study at 23 Azerbaijani universities. 152 of them study at expense of state funds, the rest - on paid base.
The number of Azerbaijanis studying at expense of state funds is 1,026, including, 731 in Turkey, 174 Russia, 61 Egypt, 22 Ukraine, 17 China. Besides, Azerbaijani students continue their education at universities of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Rumania and other countries.
The students studying at expense of state funds have right to acquire free return tickets at the decision of the Azerbaijani government.
Azerbaijani students receive scholarship in Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Egypt.
