On Thursday Azerbaijan as an Islamic country marks Ashura Day, the anniversary of the main event of Maharram month. Special funeral events are organized in all mosques and holy places, Akif Agayev, the spokesman of the Caucasus Moslem Board (CMB), told Trend.
According to Agayev, the event proceeds calmly, all security measures are taken into consideration. CMB and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation organize voluntary giving of donor blood for thalassemia-diseased people in the mosques Taza Pir and Ejder on Ashura Day. Doctors and medical personnel of the Hematology and Transphysiology Institute of the Azerbaijani Health Ministry receive donor blood for Blood Bank of the Thalassemia Center.
Earlier CMB addressed to all Moslems of the country and called on them to hold religious mourning calmly.
