The USA is satisfied with the transparent policy of the Azerbaijani government in religion, Joan Polaschik, the secretary of the U.S. embassy on political and economic issues, stated at a meeting with Rafig Aliyev, the chairman of the State Committee on religious bodies, Trend reports.
The meeting discussed the religious situation in Azerbaijan, ensuring freedom of conscience and religion. According to Polaschik, the U.S. government worries about politicizing of Islam and increase of religious extremism. The diplomat also underlined that the USA did not support steps, which may damage freedom of religion.
Ensuring religious stability in Azerbaijan is related to confidence between the State Committee and religious communities, Aliyev stressed. Civilized reaction by the Azerbaijani religious bodies to cartoons of Prophet Muhammad is a result of close cooperation of state bodies with religious organizations.
