Chairman of Media Council prepars an address to Georgian President

The Azerbaijani Media Council prepared a letter to Mikhayil Saakashvili, the Georgian President, Trend reports quoting Aflatun Amashov, the chairman of the Media Council. He stressed that, the address to the Georgian President was related to violence, imposed in regard to the employees of the TV channels ANS and Lider during the picket, held by Azerbaijanis on Wednesday.

It should be mentioned that the residents of the Demya village, Marneuili region, Georgia, attempted to hold a picket to protest against non-solution of their land problems, but the police broke up the action. The employee Nuri Osmanov, of ANS, and Almaz Kalayeva, of Lider, faced with violence and were deprived of their cameras with tapes.

The Media Council got in touch with the Georgian law-enforcement bodies and the Azerbaijani embassy in Tbilisi in this respect. Amashov prepared a letter to the Georgian President with request on taking of appropriate measures in relation to investigation of the incidents, return of the tapes and determination of the people, used force against journalists.
