The Special Rapporteur of the UN Commission on Human Rights on freedom of religion or belief Mrs. Asma Jahangir will visit Azerbaijan by the invitation of the government of Azerbaijan from 26 February to 5 March 2006, the UN Baku office told Trend.
The purpose of her visit is to assess the situation in terms of freedom of religion of belief in the country and to examine the incidents which are inconsistent with the provisions of the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of discrimination based on Religion or Belief, adopted by the UNO General Assembly. The UNO Special Rapporteur will give her recommendations.
The special Rapporteur is expected to meet with representatives of the Government, non-governmental organizations, religious congregations and communities present in the country, the UNO Baku office said.
On Saturday, 5 March the Special Rapporteur will give a press briefing on the results of her mission.
