Everyone is ensured right for freedom of conscience and confession in Azerbaijan by the state: Elmira Suleymanova

The ombudsman of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova received the special rapporteur on freedom of religion and belief of the UN Commission on Human Rights Asma Djahangir, the ombudsmans office told Trend.

During the meeting the ombudsman informed the guest of the national and religious composition of the population of Azerbaijan, on the situation in ensuring freedom of religion or belief. Suleymanova noted, Azerbaijan is a secular state where all nationalities and religious congregations enjoy equal rights. The right for freedom of conscience is guaranteed by the state, the atmosphere of religious and national tolerance is maintained.

The ombudsman replied also the questions of Asma Djahangir concerning the situation with religious congregations, involvement of children in some religious organizations, as well as averting dissemination of literature encouraging religious discord.
