The ecology and natural resources minister, Huseyn Bagirov, representatives from NGOs, state officials, municipalities and foreign companies participated at the meeting, Trend reports.

The problem of illegal tree cutting in the capital and in the regions has been in the special focus of the meeting.

Minister argued that the municipal executives of the regions should play a vital role in the protection of trees; they should also consider the opinion of the population while building new houses.

More than 300 types of trees have been cut down at the territory

of the social objects. Investigations were held and those guilty punished/fined on more than 100m AZM, the head of the Baku city ecological department, Mursal Aliyev told.

Meeting` s participant moved forward different suggestions to protect the destruction of flora in the country; like inventorying plants, keeping the records and monitoring the building sites, as well as increasing the role of the ministry in the preventive actions. NGOs have mentioned in particular about the importance of attracting society to the issue. The perfect idea is to launch an advertising campaign. Another idea suggested reporting daily the ecological condition of Baku.
