Azerbaijan participates in the project on creation of Central Eurasia geological atlas

Azerbaijan participates in the project for issuing Atlas of subsurface geology and geoecology of Central Eurasia. At the moment the second part of the atlas, Geology, geodynamics, mineralography and todays state of geological environment of transborder basins and folded structures of Central Eurasia is being prepared.

Trend reports with reference to press service of National Academy of Sciences, a working session w3as held most recently in Almaty on the second phase of the project; Azerbaijan was represented by Rustam Babayev, scientist of Geology Institute.

The project launched in 1996 at the initiative of Almaty Scientific-Research Institute of Natural Resources UTGEO and includes 9 countries, Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and China.

Works on the second part of the Atlas started in 2002, and it is to be completed in 2008. next session on its compilation is scheduled to spring 2007 and will be held in Urumchi, where the final revision of materials shall take place.
