Azeri Omb attend int'l conference

Elmira Suleymanova, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, participated at the 3rd international conference organized UNICEF in Palencia, Spain, on 19-20 June 2006.

Addressing the forum she informed about the state of children in Azerbaijan, occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani by Armenia, violation of the Internally Displaced People (IDP) children by Armenia, in particular, the right for education, medial assistance. She also noted that changes in the legislation about childrens rights, establishment of division on childrens rights at the sate bodies, activities of the Ombudsman Institute.

Book Truth about Nagorno-Karabakh, published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as numerous disks containing information on the state of Azerbaijani refugee and IDP children, has been distributed among the participants in the gathering.

As part of the visit to Palencia, Suleymanova met with leadership and employees of UNICEF to discuss the perspectives of cooperation. She invited the Director of UNICEF for Central Asia, East Europe and CIS countries, Maria Jaliviz, to Azerbaijan for familiarity with the situation around the childrens rights and discussed the perspectives of cooperation. In his turn Jaliviz promised to visit Azerbaijan shortly.
