Azeri Ministry of Ecology dries Boyukshor lake

There are more than 800 large and small lakes in Azerbaijan, 200 of which are natural and the remaining part have been polluted with oil products and household wastes, Lafita Huseynova, the head of the department of complex ecological monitoring of Caspian Sea of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, told, Trend reports.

According to him, the most sorrowful situation is observed in Boyukshor lake, where more than 18 thousand cubic meters of production-household wastes are thrown daily.

The measures have started for drying this lake. To date, about 15 thousand ha territory have been dried and the land has been covered. Around 83 thousand ha land has been dried, but the land hasnt been covered yet.

The greatest problem is that the infrastructure is developing, but hydro-technical and ecological installations arent built to protect the environment, she told.

She noted that the results of the 5-year investigations of riversides of the Caspian Sea have become unfavorable. Several polluted areas still remain from the period USSR, she added.
