Book about Caspian Sea issued in Moscow with participation of Azeri scientist

The book Todays State of Caspian Sea was issued by Nauka publishing house. Trend reports the boos issue initiator is Azeri scientist Ramiz Mamedov, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, deputy director for scientific work with the Institute of Geography, co-author of the book.

Russian co-author of the book is Gennady Pikin, Dr Geogr . Sc., head of water and atmosphere interaction lab, Institute of Water Problems with Russian Academy of Sciences; Kazakhstan is represented by Igor Mitrofanov, vice-president, Kazakh scientific society В"TethysВ". Three out of six chapters in the book are written by Azeri scientist.

This new work studies the main ecological problems of Caspian basin with account for todays changes, gives description of littoral areas condition, sea pollution sources and consequences. The book also analyzes sea levels in its different parts, oscillations with long-term forecast, as well as provides hydrological, meteorological, social and economical conditions of Caspian region. Besides, numerous attachments give tables with data on Caspian Sea biodiversity.

In his talk with Trends correspondent, Mamedov underlined growing interest in Caspian Sea; Caspian states scientists experience in littoral areas study, he said, might be used worldwide.
