In connection with the Independence Day, the President of Azerbaijan is expected to issue a decree on pardon, Chingiz Ganizadeh, a member of the Working Group on Issues of Political Prisoner within the Presidential Administration told Trend today
A sitting of the Pardon Commission within the President of Azerbaijan has already been held. At present, the Commission is considering appeals received.
Within a few days, the Commission is expected to consider about 500 appeals, prepare a concrete list to be submitted to the Head of the Azerbaijani State.
Most of those who are eager to obtain a pardon are persons committed serious crimes.
There are less of those prisoners the Council of Europe calls political ones in the list. That is connected with the fact that many of them have already been pardoned.
