Chechen IDPs Pass through Territory of Azerbaijan

Currently more than 90 internally displaced persons from Chechen, who fled during the military actions and living in Pankisi ravine of Ahmet region of Georgia over the recent years, are passing through the territory of Azerbaijan in the direction of Azerbaijani-Russian border. The internally displaced persons moved from Georgia to their native land by bus on the morning of 28 November, Trend reports with reference to ITAR-TASS and the representative of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation.

The representative of the Migration Service said that the internally displaced persons who are citizens of the Russian Federation left from Georgia to Chechen and all of them are returning voluntarily through the assistance of Russia and Georgia. Most are women and children.

In addition, the representative of the Migration Service underlined that according to the agreement, the buses are accompanied by the employees of the Georgian law-enforcement department up to the border with Azerbaijan. The buses carrying the IDPs will arrive at the Georgian-Azerbaijani border, and thereafter, they will travel via Azerbaijan. The representatives of the government of the Chechen Republic will meet them at the Russian border.
