A Preparatory Meeting on Appeal Complaint of Former Chief of Azerbaijan Presidential Administration

A preparatory meeting on the appeal complaint of Akif Muradverdiyev, former Chief of the Azerbaijan Presidential Administration has been held in the Azerbaijan Court of Appeal, a source in the Appeal Court told Trend. The legal proceedings on the case is presided by judge Gayil Mammadov.

Mr. Muradverdiyev is accused of misappropriation, embezzlement, and performing a coup. He was sentenced to a six-year imprisonment on October 31, 2006. He appealed to the Azerbaijan Court of Appeal. During the meeting, the court decided to fix the next court hearing for December 27, 2006.

Mr. Muradverdiyev was arrested on October, 2005. In October, 2005, the law enforcement bodies discovered a plot with the aim to overthrow the Government. In this connection, a number of top officials of the country, including the Ex-Economic Development Minister Farkhad Aliyev, Ex-Health Minister Ali Insanov, etc. were arrested. Currently the National Security Ministry is continuing the investigation.
