Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Participates at the 13th Session of TURKSOY Permanent Council

The Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism, Abulfaz Garayev, participates at the 13th session of the Permanent Council of Culture Ministers of TURKSOY which is held on December 18-19 in Ankara, Trend reports quoting the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The 13th sessions takes a character of report-election meeting. The agenda of the session includes summing up the results of the activities for 2006 and reelecting the Director General.

Since 1994, this post has been held by the former Culture Minister of Azerbaijan, present Ambassador to Russia, member of the International Humanitarian Academy Europe-Asia, popular artist of Azerbaijan, Polad Bulbuloglu. Within the next meeting, the opening of headquarter House of TURKSOY will take place in Ankara. TURKSOY is a Commonwealth for development of the Turkish culture and art. For its activities, goals and tasks, TURKSOY is near the UNESCO and plays a unification role within Turkic-speaking countries. Due to TURKSOY and on the initiative of Bulbuloglu, numerous books of the literature classics of the Turkic-speaking countries, calendars and magazines have been published.

TURKSOY was created in 1992 in Istanbul (Turkey) at the time of the first meeting of the Culture Ministers of the Turkic-speaking countries. The Agreement on creation and functioning principles of TURKSOY was signed on July 12, 1993 in Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan) by six member-countries Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

The Permanent Council of the Culture Ministers of the Turkic-speaking countries is the high body of TURKSOY.
