The Deputy Head of the OSCE Baku Office, Robin Sivord, stated that in 2007 the OSCE will work to achieve the adoption of the law On defamation in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
He recalled that the OSCE Envoy, Mikolash Harashti, highlighted the importance of abolishing arrest as a form of punishment for journalists. Sivord added that other European institutions also were in support of this. The OSCE representative voiced his confidence that in 2007 the Government of Azerbaijan will do its utmost to adopt the law On defamation, adding that Harashti would also work towards this goal.
