UN to Discuss Women's Rights in Azerbaijan Azerbaijani Ambassador

The 37th Session of the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination towards Women, currently held at the UN Headquarters in New York, is expecting to take periodical reports on the fulfillment of the requirements set by the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women on January 23rd.

Agshin Mehdiyev, the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan of UN, exclusively informed Trend that the delegation headed by the chairman of the Azerbaijan State Committee on Family, Women and Children, Ms Huseynova, is in New York to deliver her report to the assembly.

The Azerbaijani delegation includes the Deputy Interior Minister, Oruj Zalov, representatives from the Interior Ministry, the Justice Ministry, employees of the Azerbaijan State Committee on Family, Women and Children as well as leader of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Ambassador Mehdiyev will also participate in the session.

The Committee will review periodical reports associated with the adherence to the fulfillment of requirements of the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women

At present 185 countries, 90% of all UN member states are party to the Convention, Trend reports referring to information circulated by the UN.

The forthcoming session will consider reports prepared by 15 countries, including a first report from Tajikistan and periodical reports prepared by Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
