Agreement on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey Broadcasting Agencies to Be Signed in Baku in March, 2007

Nushiravan Maharramli, the Chairman of the National TV and Broadcasting Channel, informed Trend that the Agreement on Cooperation between the Broadcasting Agencies of Azerbaijan and Turkey is expected to be signed in Baku in March, 2007.

He said that in accordance with the agreement reached between the official agencies of the two countries, an extended delegation would arrive in Azerbaijan from Turkey in March, 2007. The bilateral agreement on cooperation will be concluded within the forthcoming visit. According to Mr. Maharramli, the forthcoming agreement will reflect all possible forms of cooperation, as well as mutual opinion exchange. We shall send our representatives to Turkey to get acquainted with the Turkish experience in this sphere more closely. At the same time, we are going to pay a return visit to that country, said Mr. Maharramli.

He said that the National Council decision concerning the broadcast of Turkish TV channels in Azerbaijan via satellite TV had been discussed with the representative of the friendly sister-nation as well. According to Mr. Maharramli, the representatives of the Turkish party were told that Azerbaijan launched the process on bringing the broadcasting up to the international standards on the basis of the international experience, and the representatives of the Turkish party not only apprehended it with understanding but also welcomed it.

We have already made a firm decision concerning the issue on the broadcasting of Russian, Turkish, or any other foreign channels, said the Chairman of the Council.
