Azerbaijan Ombudswoman Appealed to President with a Proposal to Found Coordination Council to Ensure Efficiency of Human Rights Protection

Elmira Suleymanova, Azerbaijan Ombudswoman, exclusively informed Trend today that she has appealed to Azerbaijan President, Ilham Aliyev, with a proposal to found the Coordination Council to ensure mobile actions taken by state offices, NGOs, and media sources in the field of human rights protection. The Ombudswoman considers that it is important to coordinate actions taken by state agencies and NGOs in the issue of human rights protection, which are envisaged in the National Human Rights Protection Actions Plan. The Action Plan was approved by President Ilham Aliyev on December 28, 2006. Mrs. Suleymanova also expressed a confidence that the activity of the forthcoming Council would be efficient. According to the Ombudswoman, the first meeting with representatives of different state agencies became the fisrt step on this path. During the meeting, perspectives of cooperation in this field were discussed. The Azerbaijan Ombudswoman intends to hold another analogous meeting with representatives of Azerbaijan NGOs.
