Evidence in Criminal Case of Azeri Publicist Sent to Nasimi District Court

On February 15th evidence for the criminal case against publicist Rafig Tagi, accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in his article, and Editor-in-Chief of Senet newspaper, Samir Sadagatoglu, for publishing this article, were sent from the Investigation Department on Heinous Cases of the Prosecutor General's Office to Nasimi District Court of Baku city, Rafig Tagi's advocate, Sayyad Mammadov, informed Trend. The accusation stipulates that Rafig Tagi expressed his opinion by bringing hatred against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad in his article Europe and Us published in Senet newspaper and committed actions sparking religious hostility.

Rafig Tagi does not agree with the accusation and stated in his evidence that his article aimed at explaining that European values are more important for Azerbaijan.

Samir Sadagatoglu stated in his evidence that he was in the city of Lankaran of Azerbaijan when the article was published in the newspaper. He saw the article in the newspaper and said to Rafig Tagi that he does not agree with his opinion regarding religion.
