Azerbaijan , Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Azerbaijan Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova appealed the UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, OSCE, the Council of Europe, the International and European Ombudsmen Institutions in connection with the 15 th year of Khojaly Genocide. Informing about the history of the Khojaly genocide, committed on 26 February 1992, the Ombudsman notes that this is a gross violation of the some international conventions.
Thousands of Azerbaijanis have become victims of Armenian nationalists' aggressive policy in 1905-1907, 1918-1920, 1948-1953, they were deported from their lands. At the same so far since 1988 around 20% of Azerbaijani lands have been occupied as a result of Armenia 's aggressive policy. "The genocide act in Khojaly was the cruel massacre in the history of mankind," the letter stressed.
As a result of Khojaly genocide perpetrated by the Armenian armed units backed by the heavy weaponry and the N366 motor rifle regiment staff of the former USSR, quartered in Hankendi, Nagorno-Karabakh, 613 people were killed, among them 63 children; 106 women, 70 elderly people, 487 people became disabled, 150 people disappeared without any traces. 8 families were crushed completely, while the captives were posed to cruel tortures," the appeal reads.
