Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend A.Ismayilova / The Azerbaijani authorities state that they are keen to finalise the issue related to the television and radio company ANS.
Ali Hasanov, Head of Public-Political Division at Political Department of the Azerbaijani President's Executive Power, stated that the government is keen to resolve these issues as soon as possible. He also stressed the necessity to adhere to the demands of the law. "The Council of National Television and Radio Broadcasting will take into consideration the public opinion, as well as the position of the President and the Council of Europe. At the same time, the law will be withheld," Mr Hasanov said. He was commenting on a statement by Tony Lloyd, a co-rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Committee.
Mr Lloyd stated that " Azerbaijan committed itself to exclude the use of administrative means to restrict the freedom of the media. I hope that this uncertainty regarding ANS' fate will soon come to an end."
Hasanov stressed that the Azerbaijani authorities have never used administrative methods to restrict freedom of media and are not prepared to use this method in future. There is a demand for strategic development, building of democratic statehood, which Azerbaijan has chosen. Avoiding the violation of freedom of word, press and ideas is one of major principles in Azerbaijan, he emphasized.
