The Minister: Pupils not Meeting Education Standards Should not Receive Certificate

Azerbaijan, Baku/corr. Тrend S. Ilhamgizi/ The Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan counducts exams to check the level of knowledge of secondary school pupils and will not grant certificates to pupils who do not meet corresponding standards, said Misir Mardanov, Minister of Education.

The minister said individual tutorship for entrance examinations of upper grade pupils keeps them from attending school lessons. "We are fighting against that. We have been setting centralized final examinations since last year in order to check the secondary school pupils' knowledge. We are seriously preparing the final examinations of this year and the next. Pupils not meeting a certain standard will not receive secondary school certificates. We are conducting administrative and organizational measures in this way," said the minister. Such exams were sat in the Sabail, Khatai districts of Baku, Sumgait and Imishli last week, the minister added. The ministry will soon discuss the exam results.
