Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr K.Zarbaliyeva / Head of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan and the Deputy Justice Minister, Nazim Alakbarov, said in talks with Trend that the system at the Gobustan closed prison meets the requirements of the current Code of Executions. However, he noted that in future there are plans to develop and submit to the relevant bodies proposals to simplify its maintenance regulations.

He noted that specific work has already been undertaken. For instance, a new kitchen with advanced equipment has been built within the prison and control over the quality of food has improved. The hygiene and sanitary standards are fully observed in the prisoners' cells and the bedding is changed frequently.

A prison library with various fiction books has been commissioned. The cells and corridors are disinfected. Tuberculosis prisoners are kept separately in a cell with other ailing prisoners and are under tough control with a special walking area allocated for the tuberculosis prisoners.
