Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr M. Kerimova / An OSCE Conference on Problems of Water Sources Handling will take place in the Spanish city of Saragoza 12-13 March. The represantatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Melioration and Water Industry joint-stock company, and non-governmental orginizations (NGO) will participate in the forum.
Islam Mustafayev, the Leader of the Ruzgar NGO, informed Trend that this is the second preparatory conference for OSCE's ХV Forum on Environment that is to be held in Prague at the end of May. The experts from all the European countries including Eastern Europe, Caucasus and the Middle Asia will participate in the Conference.
The Azerbaijani experts are going to will draw attention to the problem of transboundary waters in the Southern Caucasus and particularly in Azerbaijan, as transit rivers form 70% of the surface waters of the country.
Mustafayev stressed the tense ecological situation on the Kur river caused by the huge amount of polluted waters coming from the neighboring Georgia.
The first preparatory conference for OSCE's ХV Forum on Environment was held in Bishkek 16-17 November, 2006. It was dedicated to land degradation and soil pollution issues.
