Presidential Pardon Decree Ceremonies Held in Azerbaijan Correctional Institutions

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr. K. Zarbaliyeva/ Various ceremonies in honour of the Presidential Pardon Decree has been held in different correctional institutions in the country today. Yesterday's Presidential Pardon Decree was dated for the national Holiday of "Novruz" (Spring Holiday").

Trend Special Correspondent, who visited the Correctional Institutions #7, #2, and #9, reported that representatives of the Penitentiary System of the Country had presented pardon papers to those who had been pardoned by the Presidential Decree.

In Correctional Institution #7, the Presidential Pardon Decree was given to seven prisoners, eight prisoners in Correctional Institution #2, and three in Correctional Institution #9.

According to this 42nd Decree, 100 more prisoners were pardoned and released. The life imprisonment of one prisoner was reduced to 25 years, ninety-five were released and four others who were imprisoned for failing to pay their fine, were also pardoned. Three of those released were Vietnam and Afghanistan nationals.

Overall, the 42nd Presidential Pardon Decree affected over 1,500 prisoners.
