Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Kamandar Nasivob, defence lawyer for MP Huseyn Abdullayev, reported that they would be filing a lawsuit against MP Fazail Agamaly.
At the inquiry by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan, dated 19 March, the Milli Majlis [Azerbaijan Parliament] passed a resolution to cancel Abdullayev's immunity after his disagreement with MP Agamaly. At present, Abdullayev is kept in isolation, accused of assault, battery and hooliganism. Agamaly refused to comment to Trend.
Abdullayev's defence lawyer said that he would make an appeal on the sentence passed by the District Court regarding the imprisonment of his client. The appeal would be for the imprisonment sentence to be changed to house arrest or release under security.
According to the defence lawyer, the Prosecutor General's Office was successful in obtaining a petition for Abdullayev to have a medical examination after he complained of pains on his back.
The Chairman of the Azerbaijani Anti-Torture Committee, Elchin Behbudov, met with Abdullayev, who expressed his satisfaction with the conditions of the isolation cell and his treatment.
