Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr K. Zarbaliyeva / A group of prisoners at the Gobustan Isolated Prison went on hunger-strike on 28 March.
Rafig Ramazanov, the Head of the Penitentiary Service at the Ministry of Justice, informed that 10 prisoners sentenced to life-term imprisonment demand to substitute their sentences with 15 years of imprisonment. The prisoners are kept in their cells under medical control.
The Penitentiary Service rejected the data about keeping some of the prisoners in punishment cells.
Initially the convicts were condemned to the death penalty. In 1988 the death penalty was abolished and the sentence was changed into life-term imprisonment.
