Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The Deputy Justice Minister of Azerbaijan, Nazim Alekberov, said in an exclusive interview with Trend that a number of Iranian citizens who are detained in the prisons of Azerbaijan will be sent to Iran in the near future to serve their sentences in their native country. He stressed that 10 Iranian prisoners appealed to serve their sentences in Iran. Their documents have been prepared and will be sent to Iran in April.
80 Iranian citizens serve their sentences in Azerbaijan and most of them are accused of illegal turnover of narcotics. Prisoners also include those who are accused of swindle and premeditated assassination. The Deputy Minister said that Azerbaijani citizens also serve their sentences in Iran. A number of them have appealed to serve their sentences in Azerbaijan. Presently their documents are prepared and the prosecuted Azerbaijanis will also be extradited to Azerbaijan.
The process of extradition of the prisoners is carried out on the base of the agreement on legal assistance signed between Iran and Azerbaijan.
