Attempts to Smuggle Drugs into Gobustan Prison Failed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Two attempts to smuggle drugs into a Gobustan prison have been revealed. The head of the prison, Alizadeh Huseynov, reported that during preventive measures some narcotic substances were found in a package belonging to Khagany Safarov, who was visiting Royal Mammadov, an inmate on 4 April. Security found 13.33 grams of marijuana in an "Astra" cigarette box, and about 4 grams of opium and 4 grams of heroin in the actual cigarettes.

The prisoner Mammadov had been sentenced under Article 221.3 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code. He had been transferred from the № 6 Prison to Gobustan due to a violation while incarcerated.

During preventive measures on April 5th, 61.22 grams of opium were found in a package with nuts belonging to Ramil Huseynov, who was visiting his relative Rafayil Khasiyev. Opium was found in 7 nuts in the 3kg.

Khasiyev was condemened to 15-years imprisonment under Article 120 of the Criminal Code (premeditated murder) in 2004.

The drugs and the persons carrying them have been taken into custody at № 11 Garadagh District Police Office. Criminal proceedings have begun and the investigation is under way.
