Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Ilhamghizi / The trial of ex-Minister for Health, Ali Insanov, and 10 other persons has continued in the Azerbaijani Court on Heinous Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Faig Gasimov on 9 April. Insanov's attorney, Ahaves Shahverdi, while delivering his defence speech, was requested to discharge the ex-minister.

"Ali Insanov, Rasul Guliyev, Fikret Yusifov, Farhad Aliyev and others are accused of joint attempt to perform a coup d'etat. However, there are no facts proving the crime. Despite the lack of evidence, the investigation team consider the criminal case to be a special one and proceed with the investigation exerting pressure upon Insanov. There is no evidence of the fact that Insanov sponsored the election campaign of Rasul Guliyev," Shahverdy stated.

The attorney added that the defence opportunity provided to Insanov was illegally limited. The rejection of the attorneys' applications both during the investigation and in court is concrete proof of that.

The final speech was given to the defendants Fuad Mahmoudov, Parviz Kazimov, Fakhraddin Abbasov, and Anar Namazov. Insanov was to speak finally, but he requested for time, by 10 April.

The trial will be continued on 10 April.
