Court Hearing on Larceny in Azerbaijani State Arts Museum Held

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / A preliminary hearing on the criminal case regarding Aydin Ibrahimov, who had transferred the works of arts stolen from the Rovshan Mustafayev State Museum of Arts to abroad, was held 20 April at the Court on Heinous Crimes presided over by Judge Tofik Pashayev. The court examination on the case will begin on 23 April.

Mr. Ibrahimov is charged in compliance with Articles 177 (larceny), 194 (buying or selling of illegally obtained property) and 206 (trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The investigation has revealed that 274 works of art stolen from the State Museum of Arts in 1993 were transferred to the United States. Six requests were directed to the Interpol member-countries in order to find the stolen property. All the persons involved in the crime were identified and held accountable. One of the participants, Aydin Karimov, was already in the Interpol system. Mr. Karimov returned to Azerbaijan in September 2007 and voluntarily gave himself up to the authorities.
