Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. K. Zarbaliyeva/ The preparatory judicial sitting of the special suit brought on by Abdulvari Gozal, the President of "Azersun Holding" against Rauf Arifoghlu, the Editor-in-Chief of the opposition "Yeni Musavat" ("New Musavat") Newspaper, is expected to be held tomorrow, on April 24, 2007, presided by Judge Huseyn Husseynov in the Nizami District Court of Baku City, a source at the Baku District Court has reported today. The plaintiff insists on the punishment of the editor-in-chief of the opposition paper for contravening Article 147.2 (causing serious grief) of the Criminal Court of Azerbaijan Republic.
This lawsuit was brought about by Gozal after a speech was made by the Editor-in-Chief of opposition "Yeni Musavat" Paper during the telecast broadcasting by the Turkish TV Channel of "Kanal Turk" in which Arifoghlu took part in discussions relating to Kurdish terrorists ties with different organizations. In his defence, Arifoghlu believes that the suit should have been brought againt the Turkish TV Channel, not him.
Notably, in the past, legal proceedings have taken place between the opposition paper and "Azersun Holding". The court, satisfying some of the lawsuits brought upon by the Company against the newspaper, had fined the publication a large amount of money.
