Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr S. Ilhamgizi / The United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Protection and Promoting of Freedom of Expression and Opinion, Ambeyi Ligabo, who is on visit in Baku, is holding meetings with the representatives of the state bodies of Azerbaijan, social, political, and media organizations. Mr. Ligabo met with the chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Rzayev, on 25 April.
During the meeting Rzayev said that Azerbaijan has the public and political atmosphere necessary for expression of one's opinions. He noted that, the regulations of the European convention on human rights were considered during the judicial reforms carried out in Azerbaijan.
The UN representative stressed the necessity of protection of freedom of speech, press, and expression in Azerbaijan and noted the importance of the development of the relationship in this field.
