Azerbaijani Female Gymnasts Made Stage Appearance in World Cup in Portugal

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. I. Shekinskiy/ Azerbaijani female gymnasts won at the the World Cup held in the Portugese Town of Portimau.

The Press Service of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation reported that Anna Gourbanova took seventh place in the final stage with the hoop gymnastics by collecting 16.275 points. Aliya Garayeva achieved the same results in the finals with the ribbon gymnastics (15.65). Anna Gourbanova achieved another two wins to reach eighth in the final stages with the rope gymnastics (16.25) and ribbon gymnastics (15.4), and Aliya Garayeva in the final with clubs (15.675 points).

Within the all-round competition, Gourbanova took tenth place (65.525 points), followed by Garayeva with 0.8 points less. Alina Kabayeva of Russia won the gold medal, the silver was won by Anna Bessonova of Ukraine and Russian Vera Sessina took the bronze.

The Azerbaijani National Team took seventh place in the all-round competition. In the final hoop and clubs competition, the Azerbaijani Team totaled 13.575 points, beating the French Team. In the all-round competition and out of the 20 national teams participating, the Azerbaijan team took ninth place (27.9 points), beating the Italian World's champions who had made many errors during the exercise. The first three places were won by Russia, Bulgaria and Belarus.

According to the Press Service of the National Gymnastics Federation, the Burgas Grand Prix (individual contests) to be held in Bulgaria on May 4-6 will become the next tournament for Azerbaijan's female gymnasts, followed by the Poland International Tournament (individual and group contests).

Simultaneously, the Europe Sport Gymnastics Championship ended in Amsterdam and 18-year Azerbaijani gymnast, Sabuhi Aslanov, who made his debut in the major all-round tournament. Out of the 153 athletes, he took 57th place (73.25 points), his best result being achieved at 13.95 points. According to Grigoriy Misyutin, the gymnast Coach, Aslanov's was very good, taking into consideration that the Azerbaijani sportsman had beat almost one hundred rivals in the all-round competition. "He has potential, and this will soon be demonstrated," claimed Aslanov's Coach.

Notably, the Russian sportsman, Maxim Devyatovskiy became Europe's champion. Representatives of Russia, Spain, Hungary, Ukraine, Slovenia and Germany also achieved first place in other competitions within the Championship.
